Analysis of Manuscript The Witch of Holesovice by Josef Vachal

This bachelor thesis entitled "Analýza rukopisu Čarodějnice holešovická od Josefa Váchala" focuses on the analysis of the text by Josef Váchal who named it Čarodějnice holešovická aneb Vězeň v holešovickém hradě čili ROMÁN psaný za pomoci svob. zednářů. The thesis tries to present the general features of the manuscript and thus contribute to the spread of information about Josef Vachal's literary work. The manuscript was found in author's estate and now it is stored and available in The Museum of Czech Literature. The thesis mainly focuses on the analysis of the text within a composition, literary type and genre, a theme level, motive, characters and language devices. The thesis tries to pay attention to the fact that it is an unfinished text in a work- in-progress form. The work has never been published yet. Iconographic decoration of the Portmoneum in Litomyšl in context of Váchal's symbolic work

This Bachelor thesis focuses on iconographical characterisation and the analysis of the Portmoneum, that is located in Litomyšl. The decor of the current museum of Josef Váchal and decyphering the symbols used in this house is followed by the analysis of author's other work and placing the artist into the historical context of his time. The research of the Portmoneum's murals that I put into context with Vachal's total work using a comparative method is crucial in this thesis. Decyption of these hidden symbols and search for similar themes and their following analysis reprezents an important part of this thesis. Outside Litomyšl this thesis also deals with the complicated personality of Josef Váchal, his life, his art and starting points, with the figure of the passionate collector Josef Portman and their mutual relation oscillating between friendship and misunderstanding. The thehis focuses on particual art pieces across the artistic spectrum, in which the topics of mystical and spiritual nature can be found. These topics are present throughout his rich work and they become a common feature connecting his work.
Motifs of Nature in the Work of J. Váchal as an Inspiration for a Cycle of Original Graphic Works

The thesis is made up of two parts - theoretical and practical one. The theoretical one deals with the creation of unique personality of Josef Váchal and in the historical context, evaluates how much his creative realization is connected with his philosophy and lifestyle. The most attention is paid to his creations with natural themes. The practical part is closely connected with the findings gathered in the theoretical part, based on which a collection of author's graphics was created. The collection is accompanied by an author's diary and a collection of photos. The whole thesis is completed by picture attachments to both theoretical and practical part.

The theoretical part focuses on the theme of the book - letter print - from the technical point of view. Further it explores the history, origin and various forms of a book. The thesis includes also chapters about a copyright book and the term " bibliophile". It also gives brief information about the graphic art, especially the technique of gravure. In the last part it aims at two personalities of Czech culture - a painter and graphic artist Jiří John and Jan Skácel. The practical part of the thesis is conceived as a folder that includes series of graphics accompanied with poetic texts. The graphic works are made by dry needle. The texts are written by Jan Skácel. The topic of the the copyright book expresses the author´s memories of her grandmother. The topics of each graphic work depicts the psychology of the contrast between the oldness and the youth and at the same time of the loss of a close person. The practical part should be also a sort of bibliophile.
The work of Josef Váchal in art education at the elementary school

The thesis deals with the art of the modern Czech painter and graphic artist Josef Váchal and follows up its use in creative activities at primary school. The theoretical part is devoted to a detailed analysis of Váchal artistic development and brief psychological study of his personality. It also reflects the creation of other artists, whose artistic expression tends to be close to Váchal works. In fine the thesis follows the possibilities of use of artistic work in art education at the elementary school. The practical part introduce the art education project, inspired by works of Josef Váchal, and documents its complex realization at the elementrary school in Borové Lady with the final reflection.
